2011 Team Preview: Hinds

On Thursday, the Eagles got off to a 1-0 start by beating Itawamba 44-24 and Eagles head coach Kelly Murphy and his staff hopes their team can rebound from a disappointing 5-4 record in 2010. With the talent he has on the roster that should be the case and with that in mind, here's a look at some of the top players on both sides of the ball and which youngsters to keep an eye on this season...

Hinds returns 12 starters from last year's squad, so there is a lot of experience returning.

Last season, Deon Anthony took a backseat to Anthony Sheppard, but this year he'll be at the helm of the Eagles' attack.

Anthony will have plenty of playmakers at his disposal including sophomore wideouts Quantavious Leslie and Adam McWilliams along with sophomore RB Jeremy Palmer.

Quadarias Mireles and Zach Witchett are two freshman wideouts who have really piqued the coaches' interest and freshman RB Darryan Ragsdale is expected to share carries with Palmer.

Along the offensive line, the Eagles have two returning starters in Justin Barner and John Gustavis at guard and they will lead a young, but very talented group.

Defensively, up front is where Hinds has always had a ton of prospects and this year is no different, but this year they will all be freshmen.

Defensive tackles Andrew Bolton and David Washington were highly recruited players in high school and will be factors this year and DE Dontrill Hyman is an absolute handful off the edge.

In the secondary a young group of players will be led by S J'Vontez Blackmon who returns after having open-heart surgery during the offseason.

Next Thursday (September 8th) the Eagles will play host to East Mississippi and the following week they will head to Copiah-Lincoln for their first road game of the season.
