2011 Team Preview: Chaffey

After last season's disappointing 6-5 record, Chaffey is poised for a bounceback and leading the way will be seven returning starters (2 on offense; 5 on defense) along with some very talented newcomers...

Panthers head coach Carl Beach returns for his 16th season as head coach of the Panthers and has a very solid "cast of characters" on the roster.

At the helm of Chaffey's offensive attack will be mutli-talented QB Charles King who saw limited action in 2010 as a freshman, but is set to have a big sophomore campaign.

When he drops back, King will have a plethora of talented targets including Del Wilson, Alex Jeffries, Tryone Brantley and Ivan Lilly who all bring speed, quickness and D-1 skill sets to the table.

Lilly is the top returning wideout after hauling in 34 receptions for 485 yards and four touchdowns.

Along the offensive line, Bryan Oldencamp leads group of youngsters who will try to keep King upright and pave the way for whoever ends up getting carries at the running back position.

Defensively, Chaffey always has intriguing prospects to keep an eye on and this year is no different.

Along the defensive line is are DE Gary Brunt and swing player Kenny Braden who could see reps both inside and outside.

At linebacker, Danny Reyes returns after redshirting in 2010. As a freshman in 2009, Reyes posted 38 tackles and 1.5 sacks and he will be counted on to be a calming presence for the Panthers on D.

In the secondary, the loss of All-American S Daimion Stafford, who signed with Nebraska, could mean trouble but they have CB Vincent Minor and S Johnny Tupola to take over the leadership duties.

Chaffey got off to a positive start on Saturday with a 22-15 win over San Bernardino Valley. This coming weekend they take on Mt. San Jacinto onthe road.
