2011 Team Preview: Golden West

After five years at the helm of the Golden West football program, head coach Nick Mitchell has enough talent on hand this year to play with the traditional powers in Southern California. JCFootball.com takes a look at the top prospects on the Rustlers' roster and gives a quick preview on what to look for from them this fall...

The Rustlers return eight starters this year (4 on offense; 4 on defense) and are led into battle by RB Michael Pierre who used his 5'11", 205-pound frame to go for 420 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman in 2010.

Whoever the staff decides on at the quarterback position, they will have some nice targets at their disposal with the return of Austin Dotson and Andrew Williams who aren't big in stature, but they have the quickness and strength to get open, even against tight coverage.

Those will be joined by freshmen Ryan Watson, Dreu Rhodes and Malcolm Manuel who the coaches all think could have D-1 potential.

The offensive line boasts two players with D-1 abilities in Keifer Neal and Jake McDowell and they will be counted on to give Pierre Room to work his magic.

On defense, the Rustlers have a young front-four, but are solid at linebacker with sophomores Chris Fiscus and Ronald Pierre as well as freshman Ruben Ortega.

The secondary is also populated by prospects that have futures at four year schools with cornerbacks Donny Ruggles and Roth Mendoza both back after solid freshman seasons along with newcomer Nate Simon at safety.

On Saturday, Golden West routed Long Beach City 42-0 to get off to a 1-0 start and this coming weekend they will play host to Glendale.
