2011 Team Preview: Compton

Compton continues to rebuild, but head coach Sean Fernandez and his staff definitely have recruited well and boast some talented players on both sides of the ball...

Compton returns only five starters from last year's squad, one of offense and four on defense, but the young men replacing the missing starters are players to keep an eye on this season.

At quarterback, James Cortez is a skilled passer who has enough athleticism to escape pressure and make plays with his legs.

Running backs Desmond Williams and Christian Farrow are a "thunder and lightning" combo the coaches hope to keep defenses off balance with.

Keith Welper is the leader of a young group of wideouts.

Chandler Farrow, Christian's brother, is a solid tight end prospect and he will work up front with the likes of incoming freshman OT Morgan Chancelien as well as sophomore guards Rodney Donaldson and Derrick Lavreano.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Tartars have several players who will get a lot of recruiting attention this fall.

Up front, Samuel Anderson and Artikest Jones bring the heat off the edge while Anthony Howard and Anthony Howard hold things down in the middle.

The linebackers will be young, but Compton's secondary is loaded with experienced talent including Julius Childs, Brandon Watson and Mark Sanchez at corner and Twin Fernandes at one of the safety spots.

Last week the Tartars lost to Santa Monica 24-0 to start the season 0-1.
