2011 Team Preview: Fresno City

In 15 years as a head coach, Fresno City's Tony Caviglia is 120-44. Last year, his Rams squad went 8-3 and they return 11 starters (6 on offense; 5 on defense) to a 2011 team that has to be considered the favorite in the Valley Conference this fall...

After throwing for 2,365 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2010, QB Lance Orender is expected to be a force this year.

His top returning target is Trent Hicks who posted 16 receptions for 285 yards and three touchdowns and with his size, speed and athleticism, Hicks is already getting quite a bit of early recruiting attention.

In addition to Hicks, Orender also has targets like Leroy Travis and Ronald Thompson at wide receiver and tight ends Shelton Autry and Kyle Novak.

RB Kevin Williams will keep teams honest with his hard-running style and the offensive line will be led by Adrian Hill who could play almost anywhere at the next level.

Along the defensive line, DE Dimetrius Bernard and DT Brandon Veal lead the charge up front while linebackers Travis Quarless, Tanner Lareau, Ato Lakatani and Caleb Justice arae all players who have futures at the next level.

Dasheon Firerson and Fred Gaines hold down the corner spots while Donnell Vercher is a leader and ballhawk in the secondary from one of the safety positions.

Lastly, P Justin Weldon has a big leg, but enough accuracy to drop eight inside the 20.

Fresno manhandled San Mateo on Saturday 43-7 at home and will play host to West Hills this weekend before heading on the road to face Merced.
