2011 Team Preview: Mendocino

Mendocino began the 2011 season last week with a 29-17 loss to Hartnell and this week won't be any easier as they face City College of San Francisco. Hoping to bounceback, first-year head coach Mike Mari and his staff will rely on several veterans who can help the youngsters make their way in the always tough Mid-Empire Conference...

Offensively, the Eagles will be very young but the coaches are excited about he potential of OL Octavius Bush, a 6'2", 290-pounder who has the strength and athleticism to play almost anywhere along the offensive line.

Colin Florence is an athletic wideout who the coaches have termed "special" when he gets the ball in his hands.

On defense, up front the Eagles have Aeon Blake at defensive end and Brett Bowers as a swing player who could see time inside or outside.

As a freshman in 2009, Blake was named All-Conference after posting 19 tackles and three sacks and with his speed and quick first step, he should be a prospect that will garner a lot of attention from D-1 football coaches this fall.

The coaches also love the potential of Greg Summers a transfer from out of state that has a huge frame (6'3", 240) and can really be a thumper against the run as well as drop back into coverage.
