Young continues to shine for Arizona Western

When schools are looking for a hard-hitting, athletic linebacker prospect, Arizona Western's Chris Young (6-1, 225) has to be one of the first JUCO players to come to mind. The talented prospect is having an All-American season and he recently talked recruiting with JCFootball.com and updated us on the first two schools he plans to visit...

"Things are going really well right now," Young told JCFootball.com. "I feel like I've really started to get the hang of linebacker because you know I played safety before this and I feel like I'm playing really well.

"Our team is also undefeated (7-0) and we're just trying to get ready for the post-season and making sure we are focused every game."

For the season, Young has posted 75 tackles, 23.5 tackles-for-loss, 6.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries all of which he has taken back for touchdowns.

On the recruiting front, Young has been hearing from quite a few schools, but only one has ponied up an offer so far.

"I have an offer from Indiana right now and I'm going to visit them when they play Purdue (November 26th) so that's my first official visit," Young said. "I'm also planning to visit New Mexico State the second weekend of December, but they haven't offered yet."

Young, a native of Washington State, signed with the Washington Huskies out of high school, but was unable to qualify and he said he had hoped to return to the area to play his college ball, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards.

"I love Washington and wanted to get back there, but the coaches haven't talked to me since I left to move down here," Young said. "Maybe it's for the best though. I got away from some bad influences up there and now I'm just playing ball and taking care of my classes and stuff like that.

"Wherever I go though, I'm always repping Washington and I want to get back there to live eventually."

But first, he must graduate from Arizona Western, something he said he plans to do next May.

"I was hoping to get out mid-year, in December, but I still had two classes to take and I couldn't get them this quarter so I'll have to take them next semester.

"That's probably why I haven't gotten a lot of offers, but I have a bunch of schools recruiting me, most of the Pac 12 is recruiting me and I'm hearing from a lot of Big 12 and Big Ten schools too.

"I'll just keep on going out and doing what I do and the rest will take care of itself."

Young will have three years to play two following the 2011 football season.
