Recruiting Update: College of the Desert

College of the Desert is 5-2 and has a roster loaded with talented prospects. Head coach Dean Dowty gave an update on the recruiting status of several of his players and how they've done so far this season...

DE Jake Sheffield - Committed to Arizona State; Has offers from ASU and Indiana and things are heating up with Iowa who could be offering soon.

Stats: 21 tackles, 1 tackle-for-loss, .5 sack, 1 fumble recovery

TE Greg Latta - Offered by and committed to Purdue as a blocking tight end, but also plays some defensive end for COD.

LB Cade Cowdin - Offered by Nevada, New Mexico State and is getting heavy interest from Indiana.

Stats: 42 tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 interception

DE Rusty Tuasanga - Is getting a lot of FCS and Division 2 attention.

Status: 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss

OL Walker Madden - Has been offered by and verbally committed to Indiana State, but has Western Kentucky close to offering and Wyoming is showing some interest as well.

LB Kevin Harmon - Harmon is still waiting on some offers, but has seen quite a few FCS schools interested in him and Wyoming has been showing quite a bit of interest and TCU is currently evaluating him.

LB Robert Caldwell - Has been offered by New Mexico State; San Jose State came to give him a look in person recently and it is expected that Iowa wants to offer as a defensive end and Indiana is also close to offering.

Stats: 51 tackles, 12.5 tackles-for-loss, 4 sacks

RB Jai Steib - Georgia Tech stopped by recently and Washington State just requested Steib's film.

Stats: 653 yards, 14 touchdowns rushing; 7 receptions, 86 yards, 1 touchdown receiving

WR Jordan Calhoun - Offers from Hawaii and Oregon State; San Jose State is close to offering.

Stats: 16 receptions, 160 yards, 1 touchdown

WR Ivory Washington - Because of his clock, Washington will likely need to go D-2, but has some FCS programs interest in his services.

Stats: 25 receptions, 371 yards, 4 touchdowns

WR Wayne Jacobs - Has been shown interest from BCS and other FBS and FCS programs. Talented player.

Stats: 28 receptions, 291 yards, 1 touchdown

OL Eric Amidei - Getting attention from some FCS and Division 2 programs.

OL Frank Tanuvasa - Huge prospect, literally, and has started to see things pick up with both FCS and FBS programs.

S Charles Davis - Missouri State has shown the most interest and more FCS programs are starting to give him a look.

StatsL 24 tackles, 1 tackle-for-loss, 1 interception

CB Carlon Hunt - Western Kentucky appears close to offering and schools like Youngstown State, Murray State and Weber State have all been showing Hunt a lot of interest. Full-qualifier status makes him very appealing as a prospect.

Stats: 15 tackles, 3 interceptions, 5 passes defensed

Deonte Florence - Already has several FCS and FBS programs eyeing his talents. His brother, Drayton, plays for the Buffalo Bills and, besides his ability to play corner, they are intrigued by his athleticism.

Stats: 16 tackles, 1 tackle-for-loss, .5 sack, 4 sacks, 4 passes defensed

QB Charles Fortis - Fortis is having a solid season and has several FCS and FBS programs making calls to the COD coaches.

Stats: Has completed 122 of 213 attempts for 1,658 yards, 13 touchdowns and 9 interceptions

K Bret Symonds - At least one SEC school has been in contact about Symonds' talents.

Stats: Has hit 7 of 11 with a long of 51 yards.
