Mississippi JC Football Recap 11/4/11

Unbelievably, the MACJC regular season is over already. Now it's on to the playoffs. This weekend features Northeast Mississippi at Mississippi Gulf Coast and Hinds at undefeated East Mississippi. JucoWeekly publisher, Mike Frazer, recaps last weekend's action for JCFootball.com.

#3 East MS 35 Holmes 26

East MS wins at Holmes to close out the schools first undefeated season at 9-0. Lions QB Bo Wallace, who's an All-America candidate, improved his NJCAA-leading touchdowns thrown total to 35 on the year on 23-of-32 passing for 404 passing yards

#6 MS Gulf Coast 35 #14 Hinds 26

Mississippi Gulf Coast CC beats Hinds to claim the MACJC south division for the fifth time in the last seven years. The Bulldogs (8-1, 6-0) extended their winning streak to eight games.  Hinds had reeled off 26 straight points over a three quarter span to close the gap but it wasn't enough. Hinds now 7-2 overall

Co-lin 21 #17 Northeast 12

Co-lin backup QB Derek Anderson started in place of injured quarterback Chandler Rogers, and was 12 of 18 for 96 yards and had two touchdowns. RB Joel Davis rushed 24 times for 73 yards and RB Danny Hobbs had 11 carries for 48 yards.  

East Central 41 Southwest 28

ECCC LB Chris Ficklin, who received NJCAA All-American honors as a freshman last season, had multiple tackles against the Bears and ran the ball 16 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Northwest 45 Itawamba 7

Offensively, WR Marcus Henry garnered his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season as he caught five balls for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Teshadi Talton rushed for over 100 yards for the fourth time this season. Defensively, Theodore Jackson led all Ranger defenders with seven tackles and collected one sack

Jones County JC 35 Pearl River 7

JCJC RB Tiger Powell rushed for 2 touchdowns giving him 15 scores on the season. He finished the game with 28 carries for 146 yards. The victory gives head coach Eddie Pierce's team a 6-3 overall record, 3-3 in the MACJC South Division

Coahoma 26 MS Delta 0

Tiger Sophomore quarterback Jaszy Parker ended his Coahoma CC career directing the Tigers attack with two touchdown passes. MS Delta Head Coach Jay Miller retires after 42 years of coaching in both high school and the junior college ranks.

Playoffs this week 

#3 East MS hosts #14 Hinds in Scooba at 2 p.m.

#17 Northeast travels to #6 MS Gulf Coast Saturday at 2 p.m.
