Betts is looking for a soft place to land

The top back in the state of California this past season was Orange Coast RB Dominic Betts (5-10, 195) and after posting nearly 1,800 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground for the Pirates, he's got plenty of schools looking his way and more are starting to take notice…

Betts attended Banning (Ca.) High School and was to sign with Oregon after he graduated, however, he was unable to qualify and so he began to look around at junior colleges where he could play and get his academics in order.

"I liked the area and that it was still sorta close to home," Betts told "I think it was the right decision for me and where I was at and it has worked out well."

This season, Betts used his outstanding vision and 4.3 speed to rack up 1,772 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground while also hauling in 16 receptions for 109 yards and another touchdown.

"I'm a little bit of both – I can run inside or outside," Betts told "I probably run better inside just because of my quickness and my vision, but I have enough speed to get outside and make people miss in the open field, so whatever it takes to help my team, that's what I'm gonna do."

Schools have been flocking to Southern California this year and three have been in the most contact although it's just starting to pick up for the talented tailback.

"Oregon is where I was supposed to go and they are still after me," Betts noted. "I know that Georgia and Alabama also like me and have called my coaches about me and there are a bunch of other schools that my coaches have talked to, but I haven't spoken to them yet."

Betts greyshirted in 2009 and redshirted in 2010 while he got his academics in order, so he will have three years to play three after he graduates in December and he said he's started to think about what will be some deciding factors when he commits to a school.

"Good tradition and a good team are the main things," Betts noted. "I also want to just feel comfortable and see what each school has to offer. Other than that, it's just about the feel I get when I'm there."

We will have more from Betts in the coming weeks and months as he gets closer to making a decision.
