Nixon makes the call

Last weekend, Ventura LB Trashaun Nixon (6-2.5, 220) took a visit to Las Cruces and spent a lot of time getting to know the New Mexico State coaching staff. After returning home and consulting with his family, he made the call and decided he was ready to become an Aggie...

"I had just a great time there with all of the guys," Nixon told JCFootball.com. "I was there with a couple of other guys and we met with the coaches, we hung out and it was a great time.

"Coach (Dwayne) Walker just gives you this family vibe when he talks to you. He's just like family and coach (Mike) Rutenberg has been recruiting me since I was in high school so I have a great relationship with them.

"Last night, I called coach Walker and I told him I was ready to commit.

"He was really happy that I decided to commit and then I got a call from Michael Pierre and he also committed, so it was a really great night for us."

In addition to his offer from New Mexico State, Nixon also had offers from Louisiana, Nevada and New Mexico as well.

Nixon said the Aggies are expecting him to play the SAM (strongside) linebacker spot when he arrives.

This past season, Nixon posted 21 tackles, five tackles-for-loss and three sacks for the Pirates. As a freshman in 2010, he posted 75 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, four sacks and 10 passes defensed.

Nixon will sign with the Aggies on December 21st and will have three years to play two once he arrives on campus.
