Frierson hopes to find a home soon

One of the top cover-corners in JUCO football this season was Fresno City's Dasheon Frierson (5-10, 175). After two solid seasons for the Rams, the talented defensive back is looking for a home and he hopes the increased attention from some four-year schools means some offers could be just around the corner...

"I've been getting contacted by a lot of schools so far so that's a good thing," Frierson told "I've talked to the Oregon State coaches, the Iowa State coaches talked to me too and BYU is a school that's started to recruit me pretty hard.

"I've also talked to Illinois, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee and Nevada and a few more, but those are the main ones right now.

"I'm just hoping to find a place to keep playing ball and to get my school paid for."

After a stellar career at prospect-factory Fresno (Ca.) Edison, Frierson was unable to qualify for a D-1 football scholarship, so he began to look around at different programs.

"My coach at Edison, coach (Tim) McDonald, he told me about the program here and he got me to come check it out," Frierson recalled. "I came up here and met with the coaches and I really liked what I saw and it felt right so I came up here."

As a freshman, Frierson admits he was in a bit over his head trying to cover some of the top wideouts in the country on a weekly basis, but it helped him mature and get better.

"Last year, as a freshman I still felt like a kid," Frierson said. "Over the summer I really worked on my feet and getting faster and quicker so I could make plays and that's what helped me this season."

As a sophomore and leader on a defense that allowed just 20 points per game, Frierson led the Rams with 60 tackles, five interceptions and 10 passes defensed.

"I just felt stronger and faster this year and I read things better," Frierson said.

The talented DB is on pace to finish up his AA degree in March, so he plans to sign with a school in February and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
