Jones' Powell is still looking for a home

Even though he put up some very good numbers as a sophomore in 2011, Jones RB Lavoris Powell (6-1, 205) is still looking for a four-year program to take a chance on him...

After a solid prep career at Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida, Powell was unable to qualify for a D-1 scholarship, so he began to look around for a two-year program where he could get his academics in order while still playing some football.

"Jones is a great school and I felt like it was the right place to get things straight," Powell told recently. "I loved the coaches here and they play against great competition every week."

As a sophomore this season for the Bobcats, Powell was a hammer, posting 897 yards while leading the conference with 12 touchdowns on the ground.

"I can run inside or I can run outside and I can do both well," Powell noted. "It really just depends on what my team needs for me to do, but honestly, if you want to know what I prefer, it's running inside.

"I love to hit and I love taking the will out of the defense and when you pound them, it makes them back down."

On the recruiting front, only South Alabama has been letting him know that they are interested but he hopes in the near future, schools will turn his way.

"I know I can help a school and I feel like I can play at the highest level," Powell said. "Wherever I get an opportunity though, I'll appreciate it and work as hard as I can to help my team."

Powell will graduate in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
