Alfred State DB has game, will travel

A very productive JUCO DB who is still looking for a place to call home is Alfred State S Anthony Turner (5-11, 175). After leading the Pioneers in tackles and holding down the defensive captain duties, the talented prospect told recently he hopes someone takes a chance on his abilities to get it done...

Turner enjoyed a solid prep career in Syracuse, New York but wasn't able to qualify for a four-year scholarship, so he decided to join the Pioneers hoping to show what he could do on the field while also getting his academics in order

"The coaches here were great and I felt comfortable with them," Turner said. "I wanted to develop as a student and as a player and this place was the right fit for me to accomplish my goals."

As a sophomore leader on a Pioneer squad that went 6-4 this season, Turner posted 62 tackles, 18 tackles-for-loss and an amazing 10 sacks to go along with four forced fumbles while earning All-Region and All-Conference honors from his strong safety spot.

"I was a strong safety/rover in our system, but I can play free safety too," Turner said. "I have good instincts and I get around the ball a lot and I do my best to make plays for my team."

While recruiting had been slow for Turner up until Signing Day (February 1st), things have begun to pick up for the talented defensive back.

"I'm trying to get down to Villanova for an unofficial visit to meet with the coaches and bring them my film," Turner said. "Oregon got my film and emailed my coaches. They said they are still evaluating me and wanted to view my tape before they did anything.

"Other than those two schools showing me interest, I'm not really hearing a lot.

"I know I can play and help someone at the next level, but for some reason, I just haven't had a lot of interest yet, but I'm hoping someone likes my film and what I can do because I know I can help someone."

Turner will graduate in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
