Things are heating up for CSM's Sagote

One of the more versatile JUCO linebacker prospects in the state of California this past season was College of San Mateo's Justin Sagote (6-2, 225) and while he's working to finish up his degree, he's had some schools start to pick up the interest in what he brings to the table...

"Right now the schools recruiting me the hardest are San Diego State, Washington, Boise State and Western Michigan," Sagote told JCFootball.com. "I could be visiting a couple of them, but nothing is set up yet, so I'm not really sure right now."

After posting 45 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery while playing mainly inside in CSM's 3-4 scheme as a freshman in 2010, Sagote followed that up this past fall with 39 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception for the Bulldogs while playing mainly outside.

"I feel very comfortable blitzing from inside, but I like pass-rushing from the outside more," Sagote admitted. "I can play anywhere a team needs me to play, but I think outside is probably where I'll do a better job."

Sagote prepped at Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, California and was unable to qualify for a D-1 scholarship, so schools held off in recruiting him.

"I wanted to keep playing, so I was looking around and I had a friend who suggested I look at San Mateo because of the program," Sagote told JCFootball.com last spring. "I talked to the coaches and it just felt right. Coach (Tim Tulloch) told me about the program and how they run it and I looked at how successful they've been and I knew it was the right place for me."

Sagote has maintained a solid 3.4 overall GPA and should have been able to finish his two-year degree in May, however, he was unable to enroll in a math class this semester and will need to take summer school in order to finish up.

"I was on the waiting list to get in and it didn't happen so I'll need to take it in the summer," Sagote noted. "I'll get it done though and hopefully I'll have a place to play when I'm ready to leave."

Sagote will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
