First offer rolls in for AWC safety
Martin was a standout prep at Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina who had offers from a handful of schools, but he decided to head to Knoxville to play for the Volunteers.
"When I got there, my maturity level just wasn't where it needed to be in order to succeed there," Martin admitted to JCFootball.com. "I didn't focus on the right things and I just wasn't ready for that level yet, so I sat out the year and withdrew from Tennessee. I got there in June and I left in August last year and then I sat out the season.
"I was looking at Hutchinson in Kansas or here at Arizona Western and I just figured this was the best place for me."
With his outstanding size and impressive athleticism, Martin has already become a hot commodity in the JUCO recruiting universe and get his first offer recently.
"Oregon State offered me," an excited Martin said. "I've also been talking a lot with Arkansas and the Texas Tech staff is really on me a too.
"My coaches here at Arizona Western said once schools see me this spring working out with our team, that's when a lot of schools will see me and I need to be ready for them to start coming after me hard."
Even though he's an impressive athlete with a high upside, Martin knows he needs to continue working to refine his game and that's been his focus this winter.
"I'm doing a lot of yoga right now which is helping my flexibility a lot," Martin said. "I'm also trying to get faster. I have good size, but I need to be faster and more flexible so that's what I'm focused on."
Martin is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play three following the 2012 football season.
