Trinity Valley OT holds the edge

Trinity Valley always produces top talent and this year is no different. Along the offensive line, one of the top prospects on TVC's roster is OT Brandon Garrett (6-6, 285) and recently the talented offensive lineman updated us on how things are coming along this offseason...

Garrett went to Deer Park (Houston, Tx.) High School and was a full-qualifier, but because he needed to put on some size, very few schools gave him much of a look.

"I was only 240 pounds when I graduated, so obviously, schools didn't look at me much," Garrett recalled to JCFootball.com recently. "In fact, the only JC program that talked to me was Trinity Valley and that is why I chose them.

"I like it here a lot and the coaches are great here. They always produce guys that are ready for the next level and that is what appeals to me the most."

As a freshman last season, Garrett was thrown in at right tackle and he performed well enough that the coaches have told him he will switch to the all-important left tackle spot this season.

"I'd say, at least right now, that I'm probably a better pass-blocker, but I can do both pretty well," Garrett said. "I'm working a lot this offseason on my strength and speed and adding weight too.

"Overall it's been a good offseason for me and I feel like I should be ready for a big year."

On the recruiting front, schools are just starting to take notice of Garrett's many qualities including his quick feet and long arms and one SEC program has already been in contact.

"I called and talked to Texas A&M for a while the other day," Garrett said. "Their line coach (B.J. Anderson) and I talked and he said he's excited to see me this spring and what I can do.

"Other than them, I really haven't talked to a lot of schools, but I know that my coaches have said a lot will be through during spring ball and that's when I hope to show what I can really do."

Garrett plans to sign with a school in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
