Pasadena's Hamilton is a big target

A big, physical wideout from the JUCO ranks that people need to keep an eye on this year is Pasadena WR Ian Hamilton (6-5, 218). After a solid freshman campaign, the talented receiver is poised for a big sophomore season this fall and with his size, athleticism and productivity he already has several four-year schools looking his way...

Hamilton prepped at St. Francis High School in La Canada, California and was a full-qualifier but he didn't get a lot in the way of attention so he opted for the JUCO route in order to garner opportunities to play at the next level.

"I got a late offer from Sacramento State and then when I finally got my test scores, they had moved on," Hamilton told JCFootball.com recently. "I decided to come here to Pasadena to play because of the competition level we face and I liked the coaches a lot."

As a freshman during the 2011 season, Hamilton used his big frame, soft hands and underrated speed to haul in 31 receptions for 517 yards -- a 16.7 yard per reception average -- and two touchdowns.

While those are solid numbers, he admits he could have done better and that he hopes for an even better sophomore campaign.

"I was Second Team All-Conference after the season, but I want to do better," Hamilton admitted. "I consider myself to be a good blocker, but I can go down the field and go get the ball. I also love to be physical with the guys I'm lined up against.

"This year I'm working on getting stronger, but also on my route-running and getting more precise. I want to get in and out of my breaks quick and be a real redzone option for our quarterbacks."

On the recruiting front, schools have yet to pony up offers, but with his size and athleticism he's already warranted a lot of early interest from schools.
R "Arizona State talked to my coach recently and I've been talking to Utah State, Nevada, Oregon State, UNLV and Sac State as well," Hamilton said. "None have offered yet, but they all like me and I feel like more schools, once they see me this spring, they will like what they see and start recruiting me too."

Because Hamilton was a full-qualifier out of high school, he can leave at any time, but he plans to return to Pasadena this fall and he will have three years to play two following the 2012 football season.
