Florence hauls in Pac 12 offer

One of the top JUCO linebackers in the country, Contra Costa's Eriquel Florence (6-2, 235), has pulled in an offer from a Pac 12 school and more could be on the way. JCFootball.com spoke to the talented prospect and he updated us on where things stand and what he's been up to this offseason...

Florence, whose twin brother Erique Florence, plays for Auburn, prepped at Valley (Al.) High School and was heavily recruited by schools across the south including Georgia, Georgia Tech and Auburn among others. However, when he was unable to qualify, he was pointed in the direction of Contra Costa by one of the Auburn coaches once it was determined he wasn't going to qualify.

"They said it would be a good idea for me to come out to California to get my grades right," Florence told JCFootball.com. "I've enjoyed it here. I'm doing what I have to do to get ready and play D-1 ball."

After a solid freshman season that saw him post 30 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, one sack and one interception while earning All-Bay Valley Conference honors.

Because of that productivity to go along with his instincts, ideal size and outstanding speed (4.6), Florence is already an attractive prospect with several schools and one has stepped forward with an offer.

"Arizona State offered me and I'm excited about it," Florence said. "It's my first offer. I've been through this before though and my coaches told me they have been talking to a lot of different schools about me.

"Oregon State has talked to me and USC is talking to my coaches."

Florence has been hard at work in the classroom since arriving at Contra Costa and is on pace to graduate next May and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
