Four offers and counting for Delva

One of the top JUCO defensive lineman in the state of California this year promises to be Antelope Valley DT Edwin Delva (6-3, 295) and over the past two weeks he's picked up four offers from FBS programs. caught up with the talented prospect recently and he updated us on where things stand and also gave us a tentative timeline on making his decision...

Delva enjoyed a solid prep career at North Miami Beach (Fl.) High School, but was unable to qualify for a D-1 scholarship, so he started looking around at different programs and settle on Antelope Valley.

"I talked to the coaches here and felt it was a good opportunity for me to come here, get my grades in order and to play some ball against some great talent every week," Delva told recently. "It's been a lot different here, but I like it a lot and I feel like I made the right decision for what I needed."

As a freshman last fall, Delva was nearly unstoppable up front for the Marauders, totaling 29 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss and four sacks and he knows he'll be a marked man this fall.

"I know I have a lot to work on, but I feel like I can do anything my team needs me to do," Delva noted. "I played mainly on the nose to start the season, but then toward the end, probably the last three games, I moved to the three tech and played there.

"I can rush the QB or I can stop the run. Anchoring is what I do well and I feel like I can hold up against the run or the pass.

"I know next year that I'll face double-teams all year and I sorta had that this year. I am working on my footwork and my speed and my strength so I can improve, but I feel like it's pretty good already."

Things have begun to pick up over the past couple of weeks for Delva on the recruiting front and currently he holds four offers and more could be on the way.

"I know that my coaches have been talking to a lot of schools, but right now I have four offers -- Kansas, Kansas State, Oregon State and Pittsburgh," Delva said. "Pitt and Kansas just called my coaches and told them they were offering today and Oregon State offered me about a week or two ago.

"Kansas State has been on me for about a month or two. They offered really early and they talk to me almost every week."

As far as making a decision is concerned, Delva isn't in a rush and said he knows what he'd like to do.

"I definitely want to take my visits, I know that," Delva said. "Also, I want to give other schools a chance to offer me so I can see who else is interested and then really do my homework to see which school is the best fit for me.

"After I take my official visits, that's when I'll be ready to make my decision."

Delva is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
