Alabama offers JUCO OT prospect

Over the past few years, ASA College in New York has produced some very talented prospects and this year promises to be no different. One of their top prospects, OT Leon Brown (6-6, 305), recently received his first offer, from the National Champions no less, and he informed JCFootball.com about which other schools could be close to throwing their hats in the ring...

"I just got an offer from Alabama," Brown told JCFootball.com. "They called and talked to my coaches, got my transcripts and saw my film and then I started talking to them.

"Then when I was talking to them, they told me they were offering me because they like the way I move and how I play the game."

In addition to his offer from the Crimson Tide, Brown said there are two more schools who could be close to extending offers.

"Rutgers and West Virginia have been talking to me for the past few weeks," Brown said. "They are both recruiting me pretty hard, but right now, Alabama is the only school that has offered. I think those two might be next, but I'm not sure."

As a prep at Parkdale (Md.) High School, Brown was a lightly recruited prospect, but that had mainly to do with his academics and very little to do with what he could do on the field.

"I had a bunch of schools after me, but I only got offers from New Mexico and Marshall," Brown noted. "My coaches said it was because of my grades. If they had been better, my coaches said there were a lot of other schools that wanted to offer."

As a freshman this past season for ASA, Brown played the all-important left tackle spot for the Avengers.

"I started every game there and that's where I'll be this fall," Brown said. "This year I'm working on everything, just refining what I have to do to be successful -- technique, footwork, film study."

Brown is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2012 football season.
