Williams says Syracuse is 'the right fit'

ASA DT Wayne Williams (6-6, 335) is a large human being, but what belies his size is his outstanding athleticism and his soft-spoken manner. However, when he steps between the lines he gets the job done and once his "hometown" school offered he knew it was where he wanted to be...

"I made the decision to commit to Syracuse," Williams told JCFootball.com earlier today. "I'm from New York and I just wanted to be close to home and when they offered, I knew they were the right fit for me."

Williams chose the Orangemen over offers from Texas A&M and Temple and he was getting heavy interest from Connecticut and Rutgers.

As a freshman this past fall while play end in ASA's 3-4 scheme, Williams totaled 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks and he plans to put up even bigger numbers this fall, but he said he knows he has one area to work on before he can reach his goals.

"For sure it's my pad level, that's a big area that I'm working on," Williams said. "I've been working on that all this offseason and I'm going to keep working on it.

"I think I can rush the quarterback or stop the run well. It just depends on what the scheme calls for that I play in. I think that's what sets me apart from some of the other guys that are out there."

Williams is on pace to graduate in June of 2013 and he will have three years to play two once he arrives in Upstate New York.
