Contra Costa's Parris is up to five offers

His teammate has gotten most of the recruiting attention early this offseason, but make no mistake, Contra Costa OT Damien Parris (6-7, 290) is a prospect worth keeping an eye on. He already has five offers to his name and several other four-year schools could be jumping in the mix very soon...

Parris graduated from Florida Christian Institute, a prep school in the Sunshine State, and when he was unable to qualify for a scholarship, he decided to head west and play some JC ball while he got his academics in order.

"I was at College of the Sequoias for my freshman year, but I got hurt a game into the season, so I ended up getting a medical redshirt," Parris told JCFootball.com recently. "After a year off basically, I came back and I was bigger and stronger and they decided to move me from tight end to offensive line and I was happy to do that, but I decided to move to Contra Costa and I've been here now going on two years this fall."

At 6'7" and weighing in at just under 300 pounds, Parris shows the ideal feet, athleticism and mentality to hold down the all-important left tackle spot for the Comets last fall.

"With me and Desmond (Harrison), I think we do pretty good job," Parris noted. "I take a lot of pride in my position at left tackle though. I'm good with my feet and my technique. I've really worked hard on my footwork too.

"This offseason I've really been working on my strength, hitting the weights all the time and I want to lean out just a little so my conditioning can be that much better too."

On the recruiting front, Parris already has five offers and more schools could be close to extending full rides.

"So far, Arizona State, Fresno State, Kansas, San Diego State and San Jose State are my offers," Parris noted. "Kansas is my most recent one and schools like North Carolina, North Carolina State, Texas Tech and UCLA and a few others are the ones that are close, but they haven't offered yet."

Parris is on pace to graduate in May and he will have three years to play two following the 2012 football season.
