Chabot TE nabs first offer

As he continues to prepare for a big sophomore season this fall, Chabot TE Kris Petersen (6-4, 225) has seen recruiting pick up and recently the talented prospect hauled in his first offer...

Petersen prepped at Newark (Ca.) Memorial High School and decided to stay close to home to play for Chabot.

"It was still pretty close to home and the coaches there really sold me on why I needed to go to Chabot," Petersen told "I really have had a great time here and this year I'm hoping for a big season."

As a freshman this past fall, Petersen didn't see much playing time, getting reps in just three or four games, but he did manage to haul in three receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.

"I'm probably a better receiver than anything right now," Petersen noted. "I have been working a lot on my strength and my power this offseason so I can be more explosive off the line and more powerful. That's where it's all at and I need to get that so I can be better in all phases of the game."

On the recruiting front, even though he didn't put up big numbers and saw very few reps, one school has seen enough to extend him an offer.

"I got an offer from New Mexico exactly a week ago (Monday)," Petersen said. "They told me they liked what I could do and that they wanted to be the first ones to offer me because they wanted to get ahead of everyone else."

Petersen also mentioned he had spoken to several other schools, but none have stepped forward with an offer to this point.

"They all told me they were going to be watching me this fall and they really want to see what I can do this season," Petersen added.

He is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2012 season.
