Team Preview: Arizona Western (Offense)

Last year, Arizona Western went 11-1 and played for the National Championship. This year, head coach Tom Minnick and his outstanding group of coaches have the Matadors poised for another run at a title. As we here at continue to preview programs across the country, today we focus on the AWC's offensive stars and some players to keep an eye on this fall...

Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach Jerry Dominguez took the time to run down Arizona Western's offensive roster and gave us some comments on each top prospect...

OG/C Brent Walker - "He was a highly sought-after kid out of high school. Everyone in the Pac 12 was after him. He signed with Arizona State and they hoped he could get his academics in order so he could get there, but he wasn't able to get on track so he ended up here. He's big and physical. We love what he can do. He was planning to go back to ASU, but with the staff change, he's pretty much opened things up and I think he'll be a highly recruited kid. He doesn't have any offers yet, but he's getting a lot of interest from Pac 12, Big 12 and some Mountain West and Big 10 schools."

OG Nathan Bartley - "Nathan is a huge prospect. He's legitimately 6'6" and 345 pounds. He started all 12 games for us last year, just like Brent did, and one thing that is great about him is he has that Polynesian weight in that, he doesn't look like he weighs 345 pounds. You ask people and they think he's about 300 or 310. He's big and athletic and he's physical. He's probably our nastiest offensive lineman. He's also like Brent in that he doesn't have any offers yet, but he's got plenty of schools looking at him."

OT Jaylen Hunter - "Jaylen already has two offers -- Arkansas State and Louisiana Lafayette -- and he's getting some looks from some other schools too. He's about 6'4" and 265 pounds. He's really athletic. He started the last half of the season for us, probably the last six games, and he beat out a guy (Devin Smith) who signed with Purdue. He'll be our left tackle this year and we expect a lot out of him."

TE Greg Reese - "Greg is a traditional tight end that can block and you can line up along the line and expect him to handle a defensive end. He can really run well and he's athletic. He has offers from Memphis, Indiana, Louisville and Utah right now and with a big year he'll get a lot more I think."

TE/H-Back Emmanuel Bibbs - "He's more of an H-Back type. We'll flex him out, send him in motion a lot, try and get him mismatches and just let him play. He's another athletic guy that we like. He went out to Iowa State on a visit this spring and really liked it, so he's committed there and because of some other stuff, I think he'll end up there. He also has offers from Arkansas, Memphis, San Diego State, Western Michigan, Texas Tech and Northern Iowa."

WR Ted Meline - "Teddy is a guy who signed with Tennessee and actually enrolled there early. He was a good student, but I don't think he was ready for college at that point and he just didn't get it done there. He redshirted with us last year, so he'll be a two for two guy after this season. He's really strong and he's got great speed. He has an offer from Illinois now and I think a lot more schools are going to get on him once they see him this fall."

WR Markeith Ambles - "He signed with USC and played there as a true freshman, so that should tell you about his skills and what type of an athlete he is. He could have gone almost anywhere after he got done with high school. He's big, he's fast and he's pretty physical. He's also got an offer from Illinois."

WR Andre O'Neill - "He's probably the fastest guy on our offense. He runs a high 4.3 forty and he can just fly. He's more of a slot guy, but with his speed, we like to get him down the field. He has an offer from Alabama State right now and I think more schools are going to like him as they see more of him this fall."

RB J.C. Baker - "He's a real talented kid. He backed up Damien Williams last year, so he didn't have a very big year stat-wise, but he still posted over 500 yards rushing. He's a lot like a guy we had here a couple years ago, Reggie Bullock, and he got offers from a lot of different schools, so J.C. could see that same type of attention if he gets off to a good start. He's quick and he has a chance to be a really special back for us."

RB Demont Buice - "He's a transfer from Clemson and he's a straight-up, north-south bruiser. He just abuses people. He should fit in well with what we like to do on offense."

QB Cedric McCloud - "He battled with another guy this spring and won the job. He's really a good quarterback. He's 6'2" and 230 pounds. We'll do some read/zone stuff with him and use his legs, but he's much more comfortable staying in the pocket and making plays with his arm. He can run a little, but he's better just sitting back there and distributing the ball."

TE Cameron Clear - "He was very well thought of out of high school and he signed with Tennessee. He's big and athletic. He's about 280 pounds and 6'6". He could play tackle because he's such a good blocker, but he's going to be a tight end. He can really run for a guy his size."

WR Kenny Cook - "Kenny was at Garden City last year, but transferred here and he'll be a good one for us this year. He'll rep in and see some opportunities. he's our tallest wideout right now."

WR Qudral Forte - "We're loaded at wide receiver and Qudral is another guy who can just fly. He transferred to us from West Virginia, so he is a really great athlete. He's a guy who could play a number of positions. We had him at corner and safety and I think we just overloaded him. We wanted to get his speed and athleticism on the field and playing wideout, he can just use his God-given skills to be a real asset for us."

OG Dionte Savage - He was on defense for us in 2010 and he played a lot, but then last year he ran into some academic issues, so he redshirted and he's got that all in order now. This spring we moved him to offense and if he works out at guard like we think he will, then we will move Brent (Walker) to center. He's mean and he really loves to play. As soon as he 'gets it' he'll be really, really good."
