Burlingame makes his decision

Dean DT Lance Burlingame saw a couple of offers very early in the recruiting process and had hoped to take some visits this fall in order to make his decision. However, after getting an offer from one Big East school he decided he'd seen and heard enough and made a decision earlier this week...

"I committed to Connecticut on Monday," an excited Burlingame told JCFootball.com. "I was planning on waiting, but when U-Conn offered, it was the closest I could be to my home and also I really loved the program and the coaches.

"It was just the right place for me and I felt like it wasn't worth waiting on since I knew where I wanted to go."

In addition to his offer from Huskies, Burlingame also had offers from Florida Atlantic and Purdue as well as UNC-Charlotte.

With his impressive size and 4.7 speed to go along with his solid productivity as a freshman this past fall -- 28 tackles and seven tackles-for-loss -- Burlingame was a sought-after prospect this spring and will likely continue to see interest from schools this fall with a good start to his season.

Burlingame said he hopes to graduate in December, but he noted that he will be done no later than spring of 2013.

"I'm working on my classes and with my counselors to make sure I'm getting all of the classes I need," Burlingame said. "I'm for sure going to be done next spring, but I'm hoping to be done in December. I just need to make sure I have enough credits and classes to graduate."

Whenever Burlingame is able to sign, he will have three years to play two following the 2012 football season.
