Team Preview: San Bernardino Valley

San Bernardino Valley College finished the 2011 football season with a 4-6 record and the hope is with several key members returning from that squad that the Wolverines can make a push for a spot in the post-season. Today, takes a look at some of the top prospects on both sides of the ball and who the coaches will be counting on to be big contributors...

On offense, the Wolverines return their leading passer, Daniel Farley, who completed 54.1% of his passes for 1,467 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Up front, SBVC returns three players from an offensive line that surrendered just 20 sacks in 2011.

Leading the way is OT Chad Macy, a 6'4", 285-pounder who has good feet and solid technique.

Also returning are Christopher Vasquez and Miguel Herera with the latter receiving Second Team All-Conference honors.

When Farley drops back to pass, he will have his top target back in Stacy Howard, a 6'3", 185 pound wideout who hauled in 40 receptions for 619 yards and broke the single season touchdown receptions record with 13.

Joining Howard will be JorDaan Parham, an intriguing slot receiver type who hauled in 13 receptions for 117 yards and two scores in only five games last season.

Damar Sowell returns after leading the team with 520 yards and three scores. He's a nifty runner who can find space and make people miss.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Wolverines return several key members including DE Jay Fisher-James, a lineman who can move inside or outside depending on need. As a freshman last season, Fisher-James totaled 29 tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks.

DT Jordan Anderson holds down the middle and was solid in limited reps as a freshman last fall.

S Brian Widgins is the top returning tackler on the squad after posting 37 tackles and two interceptions.

CB Derek Burks also returns and should be a lockdown guy outside after racking up 21 tackles in 2011.

At linebacker, Dalton Dennis returns after recovering from an ACL injury in 2011 and will be counted on to lead a young group this fall.

San Bernardino Valley opens up the season at home on September 1st when they host Antelope Valley.
