Combs talks about decision to open things up

As one of the top JUCO defensive line prospects in the country, a lot of people were puzzled when L.A. Pierce DT Marquel Combs decided to make an early commitment to Mississippi. However, yesterday, the talented and highly-coveted prospect decided to re-open his recruitment and he spoke with about that decision and what his future plans are...

"I have decided to de-commit from Ole Miss and open it up again," Combs told "The situation is that, with Mississippi, I couldn't get in there for winter semester. My classes weren't going to work, so I was going to have to wait and get in there after spring ball, and I don't want to have to do that.

"I thought long and hard about it because I really like the coaches there and I wanted to be part of that family there, but since it wasn't going to work, I wanted schools to know that I am open again and I'll wait to make my decision this time.

"I talked to the coaches there and they totally understand the situation and they said they still want me and they is still an option for me if I am willing wait, so we'll just have to see what happens."

Combs has 40 offers, having recently gotten full rides from Boise State and Middle Tennessee, and he said he's open to everyone, but does have one visit planned -- to Arkansas next week.

"Once people started to find out that I was open again, they started calling and contacting me and I've been talking to a lot of schools," Combs said. "I'm not really even sure who I want to visit. I'm blessed to have all of these schools after me and wanting me to come be part of their program, so right now it's all sorta just up in the air. I have a lot of thinking to do."

One place that Combs doesn't have to do much thinking is on the football field. He was a real force up front for the Brahmas last season, posting 34 tackles, a team-leading 10 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks.

Last week, in Pierce's first game of the season, a 42-26 win over Victor Valley, Combs posted two tackles while facing double and triple-teams most of the game.

We will continue to keep track of Combs and will update news as it happens with him.
