JCFootball.com - Top DB Performances

A look at some of the top defensive back performances over the past week and which players are standing out for their teams so far this season. This is by no means all-inclusive, but just a snapshot of some of the top players at the position so far this year...

Blinn S Tevin Broussard - Heading into the 2012 football season, Broussard was one of the top safety prospects in the country and he's done nothing to lose that designation, totalling over 20 tackles and two passes defensed in three games this season.

American River S Zane Petty - Petty is tied for the state lead in interceptions with three in three games. He's also posted 25 tackles including 11 in last week's 45-24 win over Chabot.

Erie S Dorian Polk - Polk is more the size of a cornerback, but he plays much bigger than his stature would indicate and has a conference-leading three interceptions to go along with 12 tackles.

Contra Costa CB Tyran Finley - Finley has been solid so far this year, posting six tackles and three interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown, to go along with eight passes defensed.

Mississippi Gulf Coast S Nigel Green - The freshman has put up good numbers so far this season -- 14 tackles, one interception and three passes defensed -- including eight tackles and a pick in MGCC's 41-28 win over nationally-ranked Hinds.

Highland CB Contereze Pierce - The Scotties are off to a 1-2 start this season and Pierce has been a bright spot for them, posting nine tackles and three interceptions, two of which he has taken to the house.

Chabot CB Jamal Jones - Chabot is winless on the season, but in retrospect, they played three of the tougher teams in Northern California in San Joaquin Delta, College of San Mateo and American River. Jones has been solid so far this season while trying to keep his team in games, posting 10 tackles, seven passes defensed and three interceptions.

Riverside CB Tray Hall - Hall has shown people why he was considered to be one of the top cover-men in Southern California this fall heading into the season, posting 10 tackles and two interceptions to go along with five passes defensed for the 2-1 Tigers.

Iowa Western S Isaiah Johnson - Johnson leads the Reivers in interceptions with three and also has posted 16 tackles from his safety spot.

Saddleback CB Tevin Brock - Brock is explosive and has been tasked with playing the opponents' best wideout. This year, the Gauchos have been in some shootouts and that means that Brock has gotten a lot of work and he's acquitted himself well, posting seven tackles and two interceptions.
