(UPDATED 10/09/12) A look at some of the top linebacker performances over the past week and which players are standing out for their team so far this season. This is by no means all-inclusive, but just a snapshot of some of the players who had big-time performances over the weekend...

Coffeyville LB Martrell Spaight - Coffeyville struggled to a 7-3 win over Highland last week and Spaight was a big reason why the Red Ravens were able to hold the Scotties to just 160 yards of offense, posting 7.5 tackles. For the season, Spaight leads the nation with 91 tackles in six games.


ASA LB Rashaun Smith - The freshman was stellar in the Avengers' 69-14 win over Dean last week, posting seven tackles. For the season, Smith ranks second on ASA's defense with 31 tackles, leads the team with 7.5 tackles-for-loss and has posted a sack and an interception.


Highland LB Tevin Hanley - Hanley had a solid game last week in Highland's 7-3 loss to Coffeyville posting 8.5 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, three quarterback hurries and one interception.


Northwest Mississippi LB Desmond Lavelle - LaVelle has had a solid first five games, posting 21 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries.


Ventura LB P.J. Gremaud - Gemaud has been stellar for the Pirates so far this season, leading the team with 32 tackles including 3.5 tackles-for-loss and two fumble recoveries. This past weekend, in VC's 21-14 win over Saddleback, the talented sophomore posted nine tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss while helping his defense hold a very good Saddleback running game to just 32 yards on the ground.


Cerritos LB Chass Ghaspie - Glaspie was huge in the Falcons' 35-20 win over Palomar on Saturday posting nine tackles (six solo) and three tackles for loss. In five games, the instinctive linebacker has racked up a team-leading 38 tackles to go along with seven tackles-for-loss and one forced fumble.


Citrus LB Simon Pruitt - While Pruitt isn't the biggest linebacker out there, in fact he's probably one of the smallest out there, he plays big and this past weekend in his team's 54-21 win over Chaffey, the sophomore linebacker posted eight tackles, two tackles-for-loss and an interception. So far this season, Pruitt has notched 32 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and two interceptions while helping lead Citrus to a 4-1 record.


Palomar LB Ofisa Kose - Kose leads the Comets with 39 tackles in six games so far this season and had a great game last week, posting eight tackles (six solo) and recovered a fumble although Palomar lost to Cerritos by a score of 35-20.


Southwestern LB Jeremy Burgos - Even though he's a freshman, Burgos has been a star for the Jaguars, posting a team-leading 48 tackles in five games this season.


College of San Mateo Tevita Lataimua - Lataimua, a freshman, has been outstanding for the Bulldogs this season, posting 46 tackles and 2.5 sacks in five games so far this season.


Butte LB T.C. Robinson - Robinson has been a force for the Roadrunners this season, posting 33 tackles in four games including 18 in their game on September 29th.


Monterey Penninsula LB Kyle Todd - Another week, another big game for Todd as he posted 10 tackles in his team's 47-3 loss to Diablo Valley over the weekend.


Contra Costa LB Eriquel Florence - Florence has been a beat for Contra Costa so far this season, racking up 52 tackles, four sacks and one fumble recovery in five games including an astounding 19 tackles (10 solo) and two sacks in his team's last game.
