Mesa OL will visit two schools

Things are starting to pick up for Mesa OT Silvano Altamirano (6-3, 290) and with two offers in his possession, those two programs will get a visit in successive weeks. got the scoop on where things stand for the talented JUCO offensive line prospect...

Altamirano prepped at Mt. Carmel (San Diego) High School and was a full-qualifier, but he didn't get much in the way of recruiting attention, so he decided to play for Mesa, hoping to get some attention from bigger schools.

That gamble has paid off.

"I just liked the staff here and it was close to home," Altamirano told "I had some D-2 offers, but I felt like I could play at a higher level, so I decided to come here and play and hoped I could get some offers and that's what has happened so it's worked out pretty well for me.'

Altamirano started for Mesa at the "quick" tackle position which means he had to play on either side of the line.

"I had to get used to playing on either side, so I think that really helped me with college coaches and them looking at me," Altamirano noted. "I played tackle for us, but I'm being recruited as a guard or center by the schools looking at me now."

Altamirano has offers from Washington State and SMU and plans to visit both schools over the next two weeks.

"I'm visiting Washington State next weekend (12/7 - 12/9) and I'll be at SMU this weekend," Altamirano said.

Since he was a full-qualifier he is eligible to sign with a school in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
