Vinson close to Big 12 offer

Merced WR Tyrell Vinson (6-0, 182), one of the top JUCO wideouts in Northern California, is close to some offers and recently updated JCFootball.com on where things stand...

"Things went really well for me, at least individually, this year," Vinson told JCFootball.com. "I had a good year individually, but we didn't have a great record as a team and that's all that really matters, but I had some good stats and I felt like I personally improved."

As a sophomore this season, Vinson led Merced in receiving with 50 receptions for 887 yards and six scores.

That productivity as well as his ability to get open are what has several schools eyeing his talents.

"I'm close to an offer from Kansas," Vinson said. "It's real close, but I don't have it quite yet. I also have Baylor and New Mexico State looking at me too.

"I'm hoping to take some visits here soon, but right now, I don't have any set up."

Vinson enjoyed a solid prep career at Hunt High School in Wilson, North Carolina and had a couple of ACC schools giving him some attention, but he was unable to qualify, so he decided to head west to play for Merced.

"I just wanted a chance to play D-1 ball, so coming to Merced I felt was my best option," Vinson said. "I had a good two years here and I felt like I learned a lot and I feel it has gotten me ready to play at the next level."

Vinson is on pace to graduate in May and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
