McEvoy could be making a decision soon

When he graduated from Bergen Catholic High School, current Arizona Western QB Tanner McEvoy (6-6, 215) could have gone almost anywhere, but he decided to play at South Carolina. However, when looking at the prospect of sitting for quite some time before being able to play, he decided to transfer and after a solid season with the Matadors he has a couple of schools interested in what he can do...

"I loved South Carolina and I have nothing but good things to say about the staff there and the program," McEvoy told JCFootball.com recently. "I just saw the depth chart and how many good quarterbacks were there and they had some young guys who they were sold on and I just knew I wasn't going to get a chance to play for a while and that's something I wanted a shot at, so I decided to head out to Arizona Western.

"Coach (Tom) Minnick and the staff there really took care of me and showed me why it was the right place for me to go and that's why I decided to go out there and it was a great situation for me."

McEvoy completed 67.1% of his passes this season for 1,568 yards with 21 touchdowns and only three interceptions while leading Arizona Western to a 8-2 record.

That performance, to go along with his athleticism, has made him a hot commodity now that the season is over and he's gotten the attention of three big-time programs.

"I've been talking to West Virginia and Oregon and I've got a visit set up with West Virginia this weekend and I'll visit Oregon on January 11th," McEvoy noted. "Kansas State also talked to my coaches, but I haven't really talked to them yet, so I don't know if they are interested or not."

McEvoy has great size and athleticism and that allows him to run almost any offense a team wants to implement.

"I feel like I can be a pocket-passer or I can run the spread option, it really isn't that hard for me," McEvoy said. "I'd say I'm more of a pocket-passer that can run."

Because McEvoy falls under the 4-2-4 rule, he will need to complete his AA degree which he is on pace to do this month (he is taking online courses to finish things up). He is hoping to sign with a school pretty quickly and will have three years to play three whenever he arrives on campus.
