Moore: "It Was Just The Right Fit For Me"

All-American offensive tackle Fredrick Moore has made the switch to the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss. In this interview with, he talks about his decision and the reasons he had his heart set on Hattiesburg.

Fredrick Moore is happy to be a Golden Eagle.

In what will be a huge pick up for Southern Miss, Moore (6'5, 320lb. offensive tackle) said he is looking forward to the chance to come in and compete right away.

"Yes sir, I signed with Southern Miss this morning," he said in today's interview with

"I feel like the new Coach is going to come in with a winning program, and I didn't want to be that far from home. I just felt like Southern Miss was the right place for me."

He talked about how the coaches will use him at the next level.

"They have me coming in at left tackle," he said. "I'm going to come in ready to work hard and be ready to play."

Moore said Coach Monken was the one who sealed the deal after many months of being pursued by Eagle coaches.

"I feel like he's a great man who came in and got right in with me," he said. "Coach Buckley had recruited me for about 3 months. When Coach Monken came he just picked up where Buckley left off, and I feel like Coach Monken can get us on the winning path."

Obviously being an all-american at the JuCo level, Moore is ready for the next step. He's taking nothing for granted, however.

"When I was on the JuCo level I dominated," he said. "I was an all-american, but I know I have to work harder to succeed on this level. I have to just keep getting better and better."

Being close to home was a big deal for Moore as well.

"My home is close to Hattiesburg," he said. "I feel like that is a big opportunity for me to be right here. My family can come see me play, and I get to play for a school I've pulled for all my life."

Moore will enroll in January and jump right in to the mix by participating in spring practice.
