Savage is still looking for a home

One of the top JUCO offensive linemen still left on the board right now is Arizona Western's Dionte Savage (6-6, 335). He has two official visits set up and spoke with recently about recruiting as well as what he thinks sets him apart from all of the other offensive linemen out there...

"I am a guy who just does whatever his team needs him to do," Savage told "I was here in 2010 and I played offensive line, but then in 2011 I took a year off, just to grow up a little bit and also to get my head on straight.

"When I got back, coach (Tom) Minnick had me playing defensive line just because that's where they needed me and I did that in the spring, but then I guess we didn't have a couple of guys show up who were supposed to play offense, so in fall camp they moved me back and that's what I did this year."

At a legitimate 6'6" and weighing in at 335 pounds, Savage has the ability to play inside or outside and that's what seems to have attracted schools to him.

"Last year I really worked on my flexibility and balance," Savage said. "I also did a lot of work on my run-blocking. I was already pretty good at it, but I knew I could be better on the leads and the inside zone plays and I wanted to get the second level better.

"Coaches have really said I did a great job and that's why I have the offers that I have."

Fresno State, Akron and Syracuse have all offered the Second Team All-American and he plans to visit two of those schools later this month.

"Right now I have a visit to Fresno State for the 25th (of January) and I have a tentative visit for Syracuse on the 18th," Savage said. "That was before their coaching change, so I don't know if it's still on, but I hope it is because I'm really interested in them."

Savage is on pace to graduate in May and he will have two years to play two wherever he signs.

We will continue to keep tabs on Savage through the rest of the recruiting process and we will update news as it happens with him.
