JUCO lineman talks recruiting

It's hard for a young man the size of College of the Desert DL/OL Faleaoga Russell (6-3, 375) to go unnoticed, but that's what happened this season as the prospect is just now starting to see recruiting pick up. JCFootball.com caught up with Russell recently and he updated us on things...

"Oregon State has been recruiting me for a little while and I took my official visit there this past weekend," Russell told JCFootball.com. "It was a great visit. I really loved it. The program there is great and I really like the coaches a lot."

No offer has been forthcoming from the Beavers to this point, but Russell thinks one may come in a couple of weeks.

"They are coming down to visit me in a couple of weeks and they said they would talk about my offer then," Russell said. "It looks pretty good, but until you actually get the offer, you don't really have it yet."

Russell played on the offensive side of the ball for the Roadrunners this past season, but Oregon State appears to like him on the defensive side of the ball.

"I played mostly guard for us, but I played some defense in short-yardage and goal line situations," Russell said. "They like me on defense, as a nose tackle, and that's fine with me. I like playing both."

Russell prepped at Twenty Nine Palms (Ca.) High School and after he graduated in 2010, he took a year off.

"I actually didn't start playing until my senior year," Russell said. "My friends were all trying to get me to come out and play and when I did I did pretty well.

"I took a year off to get stuff taken care of and then I came out for football here at Desert and I've had some success."

Russell will finish up his two-year degree in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
