Brown has two early offers

After a very good freshman season, Mt. San Jacinto LB Dejon Brown (6-3, 225) has already attracted offers from two schools and more schools have come into the picture. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented and productive linebacker prospect recently and got his thoughts on things including a timeline for when he plans to make a decision...

"I have offers from New Mexico and Fresno State and I've been hearing a lot from Kansas and a few other schools as well," Brown told JCFootball.com recently. "It's been pretty cool to see my hard work pay off and it is just motivating me to get better all the time."

As a freshman this past season, Brown led the Eagles with 81 tackles and 11 tackles-for-loss while also totaling 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two interceptions.

"I definitely had a good season, but I expect more from myself," Brown said. "Probably what I do best is hustle and hit. I out hustle everyone and when I get to the ball, I hit guys and they go down.

"This offseason I'm working on my footwork and my leverage. With quicker feet you can react faster to where the ball is going and with leverage, you can hold your edge and take on blockers better."

One thing about Brown that is atypical of most JUCO players of his stature is that he was a full-qualifier out of Beaumont (Ca.) High School.

"It was a small school so I didn't get a lot of looks from schools," Brown said. "I decided to come here to Mt. San Jacinto because of the staff here and I just felt comfortable.

"It's definitely been a good move for me."

While Brown can leave at any time, he said he plans to play for the Eagles this fall and will then sign with a school after his sophomore campaign.

"I don't want to decide too early," Brown noted. "I have a couple of nice offers right now, but I want to have more choices to see where I can go.

"I'll take my trips and then decide."

And what will be some of the factors he will consider before committing to a school?

"Location definitely and the education and the football program," Brown said. "All three of those are very important to me and that will be what I look at before I commit anywhere."

We will have more from Brown over the next few months as recruiting really starts to kick into high gear.
