Fields is back on the market

Back in 2011, College of San Mateo CB Ronald Fields (6-3.5, 190) had several programs after him, but he decided to sign with Hawaii. However, one of his classes didn't transfer and he was unable to enroll there in time for the 2012 season. The Warriors decided to head in a different direction, so the talented DB is back on the market and he hopes to find a home soon...

"I signed with Hawaii, but one of my classes didn't transfer," Fields told "They decided to head in a different direction, so they dropped me and now I'm finishing up my classes and I need to find a new place to play ball."

In addition to his offer from the Warriors, Fields also had offers from UT-San Antonio and Washington and was getting interest from some other WAC and Mountain West programs.

Fields redshirted this past season while I he took care of his academic work, so the 2011 season was his last on the gridiron. That season, he was a lock-down corner for the Bulldogs, racking up 37 tackles, two interceptions and nine passes defensed after posting 34 tackles, a team-high four interceptions and 12 passes defensed as a freshman.

"We played a lot of zone and man, but I love playing man-to-man," Fields said. "It's competition, man-up, you know it's just you against the receiver and I love that."

Fields can sign with a school at any time, but he knows he will need to wait until after most FBS programs get through spring football before he sees much in the way of interest.

"It's a little frustrating, but I know what the deal is," Fields said. "I just need to be patient and see what opportunities I have when spring rolls around."

Wherever Fields winds up he will have two years to play two starting this fall.
