Pasadena DE prospect is one to watch

It's been a very interesting early start to the recruiting cycle for Pasadena DE Dale Pierson (6-3, 260). After a very good freshman season for the Lancers last fall, he's already got plenty of schools eyeing his talents and he recently updated JCFootball.com on where things stand...

Pierson prepped at Bakersfield (Ca.) Independence High School and didn't get a lot of attention, so he didn't go about getting qualified, but he's a solid student.

"I was missing a class and I could have made it up and gotten qualified, but I figured out pretty early on that I was going to need to go to a JC, so I didn't worry about it," Pierson told JCFootball.com. "I chose Pasadena just so I could get out of Bakersfield and make a name for myself in a new place."

As freshman this past season, Pierson posted 64 tackles and 6.5 sacks for the Lancers, leading them in both categories and with that productivity to go along with his ideal size and athleticism, schools have come calling.

"I have been talking to a lot of schools, but none have offered me yet," Pierson said. "The schools I've talked to the most are Colorado, New Mexico, North Carolina, Southern Miss, Illinois, Fresno State and Kansas State."

While recruiting is definitely something he will be keeping his eye on over the next several months, Pierson is also hard at work improving his game.

"Like everyone I want to get bigger and faster so I've been working out a lot and running, working on speed drills and stuff," Pierson said. "I feel what I do best is I lead my team. I always keep them in the game and make sure they're all focused."

Pierson is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2013 football season.
