Bentley is ready to make his mark

Along with Sanford Seay, Itawamba WR Jarvis Bentley (6-5, 200) forms one of the top JUCO wide receiver tandems in the country. After spending a year at UMass, the big wideout decided to leave and give himself a shot at playing at the highest level possible and with a very good redshirt freshman campaign under his belt he's poised to earn some FBS offers sooner rather than later...

"I signed with UMass out of high school, but after I spent a year there, I just felt like I needed to give playing at the highest level another chance, so I came here to Itawamba," Bentley told JCFootball.com. "We have good coaches here and we play against some of the best competition in the country every week, so I think it's getting me ready for what I want to ultimately do and that's play BCS ball."

As a redshirt freshman this past season, Bentley hauled in 37 receptions for 297 yards and one score and he said this offseason he's working hard on perfecting his craft.

"I want to improve in everything," Bentley said. "I'm working on my strength, my speed, my routes, my hands and everything else that will help me become a better player and allow me to help my team win a state championship."

On the recruiting front, things have just started to take off for Bentley as he's heard from the two in-state SEC programs.

"The only schools I've actually heard from myself are Ole Miss and Mississippi State," Bentley said. "My coaches talked to a bunch of other schools about me, but right now those are the two I've spoken to. I don't have any offers yet, but it's still really early."

As far as academics are concerned, Bentley is a very good student and will have his AA degree in December. Wherever he signs, he will have two years to play two following the 2013 football season.
