"I had planned to return to Pasadena, but over the past couple of days, things with Syracuse have been heating up," Marona told JCFootball.com shortly after getting off the phone with the Syracuse coaches. "They had to dismiss a player and they were short a guy, so they decided to start looking for more guys they could add to their program this year ess and then I guess the coaches were watching my film and coach (Scott) Shafer said by far my tape was the best they had and they couldn't believe no one had picked me up yet.
"They offered me a trip out there next weekend (April 5th - 7th) and then today I just got off the phone with them and they offered me a scholarship."
Marona said there is a good chance if things live up to what he's been told about the Syracuse program, there is a very good chance he will wind up signing with them.
"I'll get to watch spring practice and sit down with the coaches and if everything goes well, there's a great chance I'll wind up putting on a Syracuse jersey this coming fall," Marona noted.
He enjoyed a solid prep career at St. Francis (La Canada, Ca.) High School and had planned to sign with Fresno State, but he was missing a core class, so he enrolled and greyshirted with Foothill in 2011.
He then transferred to Pasadena this past fall where he saw plenty of playing time at defensive end making appearences in 10 games last season and totaling 25 tackles with five tackles-for-loss and two sacks.
Should he wind up signing with the Orangemen this spring, he will have four years to play three once he steps on campus.
