Borland still open to suitors

Last week it was reported that DeAnza LB Mark Borland (6-0, 230) had signed with Eastern Michigan, however, that turned out to be a bit premature as the talented linebacker is still mulling over his options. Here's an update on where things stand with him and which schools are after the talented prospect...

"I actually haven't signed with Eastern Michigan or anyone right now," Borland told JCFootball.com over the weekend. "Right now, my only offers are walk on offers from Eastern Michigan, Fresno State and Wyoming. All of them said I would need to walk on this fall and then they would likely have scholarships for me. So I haven't signed with anyone yet.

"Right now, Kent State and Toledo have really started to come after me and Indiana State is after me too, so I'm sorta waiting to see what happens with both of them before I do anything right now."

As a prep, Borland was a standout for Santa Teresa (San Jose, Ca.) High School and he had a scholarship to attend Fresno State, but he was short a couple of core classes and was unable to qualify.

"I headed to Foothill College and greyshirted there in 2011," Borland said. "I was there for a year and then came here to DeAnza and now I'm just looking for the right opportunity to finish out my college career."

As a sophomore this past season, Borland, playing mostly outside linebacker, led the Dons with 82 tackles while also posting four sacks, 10.5 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.

He has good speed, outstanding instincts and he's a sure-tackler when he arrives at the ball.

Borland is eligible to leave in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he signs.
