Full Circle For Campbell?

This winter, East L.A. DL Demetrius Campbell *6-4, 290) was a highly sought-after prospect with over 20 offers to his name. However, when his academics got a little complicated several of those schools begged off and he was left without a home. Now that things appear to be falling into place in the classroom, he could wind up signing with the school he hoped to attend coming out of high school...

"Things have started to fall into place and I could be heading back to the school I grew up rooting for," a happy Campbell told JCFootball.com. "West Virginia has started to recruit me again and I spoke with coach (Erik) Slaughter and he wanted my transcripts to see where things stand for me.

"He just got them today and he said everything looks really good, but he said they definitely have to look them over to make sure it's all going to be good."

As a prep in Florida, Campbell was a highly recruited prospect and had committed to play for the Mountaineers, but was unable to qualify, so he headed west to keep playing ball and wound up at College of the Canyons before transferring to East Los Angeles shortly before the start of the 2012 season.

Last season, as a sophomore starter who played both defensive end and defensive tackle, the 6'4", 290-pounder totaled 45 tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

In addition to the attention from the Mountaineers, Campbell has also been talking with Washington and said that Arkansas State was close to offering.

"I'm just waiting for the offer so that I can know where I'm going to be next year," Campbell said. "I am finishing up all of my courses this next month (May) and I will be ready to go then.

"I just want the chance to play and to prove everyone wrong that doubted I could get it done in the classroom. Whichever school that takes a chance on me will not regret it. I will be motivated to do the best I can every day."

As he noted earlier, Campbell is on pace to finish up his classes in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
