Things are picking up for Derosier

From a physical standpoint, there isn't a better specimen out there than College of the Sequoias DE Julio Derosier (6-6, 265). While he only played a handful of games last year due to a foot injury, he's still drawing attention from several schools and could be on the verge of breaking through with an offer...

"Washington told me they are probably going to offer soon. Probably tomorrow or sometime this week," Derosier told "I've been talking a lot with Oregon and a few other schools from the Pac 12 and they all like me at defensive end."

Derosier enjoyed a solid prep career at Homestead (Fl.) High School, but his senior season was cut short due to an injury.

"I fractured my (right) foot and missed most of my senior season and that basically made everyone pull off of me," Derosier said. "I was a full-qualifier, but I decided to head out here (to College of the Sequoias) to play some ball.

"The coaches here were the first I spoke to when I wasn't going to sign with someone and coach (Robert) Dougherty was really open with me and said he felt I would be a great fit for their system."

As a freshman last season while playing both nose tackle and defensive tackle along with his more natural defensive end spot, Derosier totaled 15 tackles and two tackles-for-loss while playing in just five games due to another foot injury, this time to his left foot.

"I broke it and had to miss he last five games, but I'm back healthy now and I'm ready to go," Derosier said. "I played nose sometimes and defensive tackle last year and I also played on the weakside at defensive end or the strongside. I get off the ball well and I strike well and the coaches like my aggressiveness.

"I've been working a lot on my footwork. I'm a big guy and I have good footwork, bu I always feel like it can be better and that's what I've been working on since the season ended. I've also been studying a lot of film and recognizing plays."

Derosier is on pace to finish up his AA degree in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2013 football season.
