Alsey is a name to keep an eye on

For the past couple of years, the American River football program has produced a ton of top-shelf talent and this year is no different. One player starting to pop up on recruiting radars is DL Tyler Alsey (6-3, 275) and JCFootball.com recently spoke to the versatile prospect to get the scoop on how the offseason is going and which four-year schools have started to give him a long look...

After a solid prep career at Oakmont (Roseville, Ca.) High School, Alsey, who was a full-qualifier, didn't receive much in the way of recruiting attention, so he opted to head to American River to continue his football career.

"They have great coaches here and their program has been one of the top programs in the state, so I felt it was probably the best place for me," Alsey told JCFootball.com. "I like it here. I feel comfortable and it's still pretty close to home too, so it's been a good situation."

Last season as a freshman, Alsey rotated in at both defensive tackle and defensive end and got limited reps, but this season he expects to see plenty of time.

"Last season we had some good sophomores, so it was tough, but this year I'll be moving around a lot and playing some three-tech and some strongside defensive end," Alsey said. "I have a high Football I.Q. and I'm really quick for a guy my size.

"This offseason I've been working on my get-off and my speed. I think it will really pay off this year."

As far as recruiting is concerned, Alsey has been hearing from a few schools, but still is waiting on that first offer.

"I've been hearing from Sacramento State, Weber State and Texas State," Alsey said. "No one has offered yet, but I know if I go out and play well that I will have some choices. I just have to control what I can and let the other stuff just happen how it's going to happen."

Since he was a full-qualifer, Alsey can leave at any time, but he plans to return to American River and play for the Beavers this fall and he will have three years to play two following the 2013 football season.
