Tausch leads potent Kilgore attack

One of the top returning signal-callers in the JUCO ranks this fall is Kilgore QB Tanner Tausch (6-2, 215). The talented passer had a solid freshman season and hopes an even better sophomore campaign catches the eyes of some four-year coaches who are looking for someone to come in and lead their offense...

Tausch enjoyed a solid prep career in Forth Worth (Tx.), but he didn't have a lot of options, so he decided to head to Kilgore to get some college experience and hopefully put himself into a position where an offer to an FBS program could become a reality.

"I could have played at Steven F. Austin, but I just felt like I could play at a higher level," Tausch told JCFootball.com recently. "I liked the staff here at Kilgore and felt like they could get me ready to play at the next level and if I did well here I could get noticed."

As a freshman last season, Tausch completed 59% of his passes for 2,051 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while leading his team to an 8-3 record. That productivity as well as his ability to keep plays alive with his legs is a big reason that several schools have made it known they have him in their sights.

"This spring I talked to Texas State and Kentucky and a few other schools, about a half-dozen, and they all sorta said the same thing -- they want to see how I progress from this spring to the start of our season," Tausch said.

In preparation for what promises to be a big 2013 season, not only for himself but for the entire Ranger team, Tausch has been working a lot on his footwork and his overall understanding of the game as well as what defenses are trying to do on the field to confuse him.

"Footwork has been the biggest thing for me because that contributes to everything you do as a quarterback," Tausch said. "I've also been watching hours and hours of film. I felt like I needed to understand what defenses were doing better, so I've been watching film for hours every day because I want to be at the top of my game."

In addition to being a leader on the football field, Tausch is also a very good student. He was fully-qualified out of high school, so he can leave at any time, but he plans to play for Kilgore this fall and then will sign with a school in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2013 football season.
