EMCC is the Favorite in MACJC North

SCOOBA – With four MACJC North Division regular-season football titles in the past five years, East Mississippi Community College has once again been tabbed as the preseason division favorite, as voted on by the league's coaches in a poll conducted for publication in the 2013 Mississippi Gridiron Preview Annual.

In the magazine's poll of the 14 head football coaches from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, the two-time reigning division champion EMCC Lions are favored to win the MACJC's North Division on the heels of last year's 8-2 campaign that included a fifth consecutive appearance in the MACJC State Playoffs under head coach Buddy Stephens.

With five division crowns over the past six seasons, the Bulldogs of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College are picked by the state's football coaches to claim this year's MACJC South Division regular-season title over reigning state champion Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

According to the magazine's preseason coaches' poll, Northeast Mississippi is tabbed to finish second in the MACJC's North Division regular-season standings, followed by Itawamba, Holmes, Northwest Mississippi, Mississippi Delta and Coahoma.

After Gulf Coast and Co-Lin, the state's junior college football coaches have Hinds placing third in the MACJC's South Division standings, followed by Jones County, Pearl River, East Central and Southwest Mississippi.

Featuring full-page season previews of every SEC and MACJC football team along with previews for every college and high school team in the state, the 2013 Mississippi Gridiron Preview Annual is slated to be available in stores beginning this week. The magazine will be available in Walmart and Kroger stores throughout the state as well as at Campus Book Mart locations in Starkville, Oxford and Hattiesburg.

With the official NJCAA preseason football rankings set for release on Tuesday, Aug. 13, the EMCC Lions have earned a No. 6 preseason ranking by JCGridiron.com in its annual Dirty 30 national junior college football rankings. The JCGridiron.com Dirty 30 preseason rankings include all junior college football programs affiliated with the National Junior College Athletic Affiliation as well as from the highly acclaimed California Community College Athletic Association.
