Allen is a player to watch in 2013

One of the emerging offensive line prospects in the JUCO ranks this summer has been Grossmont OT A.J. Allen (6-7, 315). The talented linemen is super-athletic and that trait along with his huge frame that has attracted the attention of two BCS programs that have extended offers his way as well as several other schools who seem like they could be close to jumping into the mix...

"I have offers right now from Arizona State and Kentucky," Allen told JCFootball.com earlier this week. "I've also been hearing a lot from a bunch of other schools like Oklahoma, Purdue, Illinois, USC, Oregon, Connecticut and Texas Tech, so things have been going well."

As a prep, Allen enjoyed a solid career at Valhalla (El Cajon, Ca.) High School and he had offers to play D-2 football and he had an offer to walk-on at Utah State after he graduated.

"I just decided that I wanted to give myself a chance to earn a scholarship to play at the highest level I could, so Grossmont was the place for me," Allen said. "They always have a bunch of guys go D-1 and I felt like they could get me ready for the next level."

Last season, Allen started on the right side and played in every game, but this fall he will handle the left tackle spot for the Griffs.

"I'm a good pass-blocker and that's something my coaches like about me," Allen said. "I love to run-block though and I've improved at that a lot. You can be a lot more aggressive when you are run-blocking and I have a lot of fun with it when they call on us to do that."

Allen is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two following the 2013 season.
