Top Performers - Linebackers

Here's a list of some of the top performers at the linebacker position so far this season in the JUCO ranks and a handful of names that are standing out so far this season...

Louisburg LB Stephen Williams - Williams had three tackles and an interception he took back 65 yards for a touchdown as the Hurricanes blew past Fork Union 43-18. This season, the sophomore has totaled 14 tackles, one sack and an interception while helping to lead Louisburg to a 2-0 record.

Blinn LB Ryan Flannigan - Flannigan had two interceptions, one of which he returned 68 yards for a score and he also totaled five tackles as Blinn downed Southeast Prep 55-7. So far this season, the talented sophomore has racked up 19 tackles and two interceptions.

Independence LB Richard Dorvilus - Indy is off to a slow start so far this season, but Dorvilus is doing his best to lead the defense. Last week, in a 44-3 loss to Arkansas Baptist, Dorvilus had eight tackles (six solo) and one tackle-for-loss. In three games, the sophomore, who has offers from several schools, has totaled 26 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one sack and a forced fumble.

Ridgewater LB Luke Blanch - In a 28-7 win over Vermilion, the freshman led the way with 15 tackles. In two games so far this season, Blanch leads the team with 22 tackles to go along with one sack and one tackle-for-loss.

Copiah-Lincoln LB Jordan Harris - Harris had a big game for Co-Lin as he totaled 11 tackles and three tackles-for-loss in a 48-24 win over Northwest Mississippi.

Garden City LB Errol Clarke - In three games so far this season, Clarke, a freshman leads the Broncbusters with 32 tackles and six tackles-for-loss and he's tied for the team lead with 1.5 sacks. Last week, in a 34-24 loss to Hutchinson, Clarke totaled 10 tackles, 1/2 a sack and two tackles-for-loss.

Ellsworth LB Irving Steele - The Panthers got blown out by Iowa Western 61-0, but Steele still had a solid afternoon, totaling 12 tackles and a tackle-for-loss on the day.

Butler LB Tyler Hayes - The sophomore outside linebacker led the Grizzlies with 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss and 1/2 a sack in a 52-14 win over Fort Scott. In three games, Hayes leads Butler in tackles with 27 while also totaling 2.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks.

Butler LB Phillip Willamson - Williamson is off to a fast start to far this season. After three games, he leads the Grizzlies with 5.5 sacks to go along with 11 tackles and 3.5 tackles-for-loss. Last weekend, Williamson had three sacks and three tackles in Butler's 52-14 win over Fort Scott.

Tyler LB Jaylin Minor - The freshman from Navasota (Tx.) had a huge game in the Apaches' 56-24 win over Kilgore last week as he led the team with 11 tackles and two passes defensed. So far this season, in two games, Minor leads Tyler with 21 tackles.

Cerritos LB Anthony Carrion - Carrion posted seven tackles (four solo), two tackles-for-loss, one sack and one fumble recovery for the Falcons in their 50-19 win over LA Harbor last week.

Citrus LB Maurice Dupleasis - The sophomore had a game-leading 12 tackles (10 solo) to go along with two sacks, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and a forced fumble and he helped lead the way to a 34-21 win over Pasadena.

Fullerton LB Simon Poti - Poti totaled 7 tackles (4 solo), a forced fumble and and fumble recovery in Fullerton's 41-21 win over Long Beach.

Victor Valley LB Jimmy Musgrave - Musgrave had a great game in Victor Valley's heart-breaking 17-16 loss to L.A. Pierce, posting nine solo tackles and two sacks and was named the Mountain Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Santa Barbara LB Morgan Nevin - The sophomore had 15 tackles and two fumble recoveries that led to his team's two touchdowns in a 15-14 win over Allan Hancock and was named the Pacific Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Bakersfield LB Grant Campbell - Campbell is one of the top returning tacklers in the state and showed his prowess again last weekend when he totaled 11 tackles (six solo) in Bakersfield's 24-9 win over Santa Ana.

Fresno City LB Nate Palomino - The sophomore had an amazing game for the Rams, totaling 25 tackles, all solo, to go along with three sacks, six tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery in Fresno City's 35-14 win over West Hills last week.

College of San Mateo LB Michael Spivey - Spivey had eight tackles (three solo), a tackle-for-loss and an interception as CSM downed Laney 41-27 last weekend.

Sierra LB Austin Wyatt- Wyatt was all over the place for the Wolverines last week, totaling 17 tackles (eight solo), a tackle-for-loss, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup, but Sierra still fell to Sacramento 37-31.

Butte LB Brian Anderson - Anderson helped push Butte to a 45-14 win over Feather River by posting seven tackles and a tackle-for-loss.

Feather River LB Kyle Newsom - Newsom, who received preseason honors as one of the top linebackers in the northern part of the state, had 16 tackles and two tackles-for-loss, but the Golden Eagles still fell to Butte by a score of 45-14.

Reedley LB Josh Boulware - Despite Boulware's best efforts -- an amazing 20 tackles (8 solo), 1.5 sacks, two tackles-for-loss and one fumble recovery -- Reedley was still unable to get the win, falling to College of the Sequoias 41-26.

San Joaquin Delta LB Jamie Christopherson - Christopherson might not be the biggest player on the field, but he certainly played the biggest as he posted 16 tackles (12 solo) and 1.5 tackles-for-loss, but it wasn't enough to keep Chabot from downing Delta by a score of 32-17.
