A Look Back at Week 5's Top Matchups

No. 14 Jones County knocked off top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast for the second consecutive season with a 52-42 victory Thursday night. The wide receiver showdown between Jones County sophomore JaMicheal Willis and Bulldogs sophomore D'haquille Williams did not disappoint. Willis hauled in nine receptions for 226 yards and two touchdowns, while Williams caught 11 passes for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore defensive back Victor Jenkins was a hawk in the Bobcats' win, racking up a game-high 18 tackles and an interception.

While most teams across the country continue to put up extensive offensive numbers, No. 6 Copiah-Lincoln utilized their Top 10 defense to score a 19-10 victory over No. 11 Hinds. Led by a game-high 14 tackles from sophomore linebacker Jordan Harris, the Wolves defense compiled 17 tackles-for-loss in the win. Leading the Copiah-Lincoln attack, freshman quarterback Daniel Fitzwater completed 20-of-35 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns. Wolves sophomore running back Kelton Smith added 163 yards rushing on 25 carries.

The Highland Scotties overcame four turnovers and scored a game-winning touchdown in the final seconds to knock off No. 4 Butler, 23-21. Trailing 21-17 with eight seconds left, Scotties freshman quarterback Brandon Bergeron found sophomore wide receiver Desmond McGee in the corner of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Bergeron was 44-for-57 passing for 294 yards and a touchdown in the Highland win. The defeat was Butler's first home loss since 2005, snapping a 47-home game winning streak.
